Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And He was casting out a demon, and it was mute. So it was, when the demon had gone out, that the mute spoke; and the multitudes marveled. – Lk. 11:14
Sometimes it’s physical; but sometimes it’s spiritual. There were undoubtedly plenty of medical explanations as to why this mute man couldn’t speak. But Jesus discerned his issue was a spiritual one. So Jesus cast out the demon, and, “…when the demon had gone out,” (v. 14), the man spoke. If Jesus had tried to declare healing before He cast out the demon, He would have been wasting His time! But once the spiritual issue had been resolved, the healing simply happened, with no additional prayer required.
Some of the problems you are facing in your life are physical! But some are spiritual. And it is a waste of time, effort and energy to hit a spiritual nail with a physical hammer. Ask God to show you what’s really going on: in your body (physical), in your marriage (relational), and in your finances (material). Satan’s greatest strategy is ignorance. He wants you to keep coming at spiritual problems from a physical angle. So don’t buy it. Declare freedom from what’s oppressing you, and watch the darkness flee!
A plague is sweeping across the globe. It’s a physical problem! But what if it has spiritual roots? What if, along with a vaccine and medical intervention, repentance and deliverance are required? Are we wasting time by not presenting a spiritual solution along with our physical plans?
Prayer:
Father, Your Word says I have the mind of Christ. I pray You would make me wise, just like Jesus. Give me discernment to see what’s really going on so I can pray accordingly, in Jesus’ name!
