Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
This is the inheritance of the children of Gad according to their families, the cities and their villages. – Josh 13:28
Each tribe had a different – and specific – inheritance. The point? Your inheritance will look different from the people around you; and that is a good thing. Your inheritance might look like a stable career and a large family; or, it might look like being called overseas as a missionary. No inheritance was better or worse than another, only different.
Each inheritance was uniquely good. None of the tribes of Israel were left without every single thing they needed to survive and prosper; yet no two inheritances looked identical. And that is a good thing!
Take your eyes off your neighbor. God has blessed him or her uniquely because (s)he is designed uniquely. God has blessed you like He will not bless anyone else, because He knows the plans He has for you! Celebrate the blessings others receive, and cherish the blessings God has given you.
Prayer:
Father, help me never to covet my neighbor’s blessing. I know my life looks different from my neighbor’s for good reason. You have great plans for me, and those plans should be unique!
