Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So they took the things Micah had made, and the priest who had belonged to him, and went to Laish, to a people quiet and secure; and they struck them with the edge of the sword and burned the city with fire. There was no deliverer, because it was far from Sidon, and they had no ties with anyone… – Judges 18:27-28a
The Danite warriors descended on Laish. They killed everyone in the city and burned it to the ground! And Laish didn’t stand a chance. There was no one to rescue them because, “…they had no ties with anyone” (v. 28).
It might seem easier to go through life alone. But sooner or later you will meet an enemy that is too strong for you. And when you face that battle, all that matters is, whom do you have by your side?
Isolation leaves you vulnerable; but community makes you strong. Are you surrounded by other people who can run and help when the enemy attacks?
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. – 1 Pet. 5:8-9
Prayer:
Father, I pray You would surround me with men and women who know how to pray! With people who will fight with me, and fight for me. I know Your will is not for me to be alone! So as You put good people in my life and invite me into relationship, help me to pursue it with all that I have, in Jesus’ name!
