Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And the old man said, “Peace be with you! However, let all your needs be my responsibility; only do not spend the night in the open square.” – Judges 19:20
A Levite and his family were returning from Bethlehem to Ephraim. They stopped in a town called Gibeah for the night; but an old man met them, and begged them to come stay with him. The old man’s plea was, do not spend the night in the open square. In other words: do not leave yourself unprotected! You need shelter.
You need shelter too. You need accountability. God will send people into your life to tell you when you are vulnerable: to beg you to come back to where it’s safe, in the shadow if the Almighty. You need prayer protection! God will send people into your life to cover you in prayer, so there is no open hole for the enemy to wriggle through.
Don’t spend the night in the open square! There are people God will send into your life to rescue you from your unprotected state. Take heed, and go inside under God’s protection where it is safe.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for accountability partners. Thank You for prayer warriors! Thank You for the men and women in my life who are unwilling to see me out in the cold and unprotected. Bless them for the way they have blessed me, in Jesus’ name!
