Commentary from Pastor Mike White:
…and she came softly, uncovered his feet, and lay down. – Ruth 3:7
Ruth’s husband was dead. She was left without an inheritance, and needed someone to provide for her. According to Levitical Law, it was the responsibility of Elimelech’s closest living relative to marry Ruth and produce offspring (Deut 25:5).
Ruth had a right to be demanding. She could have found Boaz and demanded that he make her his wife. But instead, she showed her servant’s heart. She laid at Boaz’ feet, and offered to become his servant. As a result, Boaz happily took her as his bride. Ruth was given a son, and he became King David’s grandfather.
When we demand favor, it will be denied; but when we offer to serve, favor will be poured out upon us. Lay at Jesus’ feet. Offer to serve Him, and watch what He will do for you.
For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. – Lk 14:11
Prayer:
Father, I want to serve You with my whole heart! Help me to serve from a place of humility. I want less of me, and more of You, in Jesus’ mighty name!
