Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
The wicked is banished in his wickedness, but the righteous has a refuge in his death. – Prov. 14:32
Sooner or later, every single one of us will die. Uplifting way to start your morning, isn’t it?! But it’s true! We deprive ourselves of reality when we pretend we will live forever. David prayed, “Lord, make me to know my end…” (Ps. 39:4). David wanted God to remind him that he wouldn’t live forever so he could spend his time on earth well. When we live in light of eternity, we feel a holy and healthy pressure to manage our time and apply our focus wisely.
But here is the uplifting part. “The righteous has a refuge in his death” (Prov. 14:32). When you know Jesus, death is not something to fear; it is something to embrace. Because when you know Jesus, death will not be cold and dark; it will be warm and bright! It will be a place of comfort and peace: a refuge, because you will be face to face with Jesus in Heaven for all eternity.
You don’t have to be afraid of death. When you say yes to Jesus, your death will be a beautiful transition from this life to the next.
Prayer:
Father, help me to number my days! Make me to know my end. Remind me that this life is not all there is! I want to live for eternity, and not just for today. Thank You that because I have Jesus, I have a refuge even in death!
