Ahijah the son of Ahitub, Ichabod’s brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the Lord’s priest in Shiloh, was wearing an ephod. But the people did not know that Jonathan had gone. – 1 Sam. 14:3
The ephod was a powerful tool. When God’s priest had an ephod, he could practice divination. He could ask God questions about what would happen next, and God would tell him![1] But here was Ahijah, wearing an ephod. Yet even though he had the ephod, he wasn’t hearing from God. He didn’t know what was happening right under his nose! Ahijah knew God in pretense; but he didn’t know God in practice. He had all the marks of someone who should be hearing directly from God; but he had no real experience hearing God’s voice.
If you really know God, He will speak to you. You and God will have conversations in times of prayer! You will ask Him what is coming, and He will tell you. He will tell you what is going to happen in advance, so you can always be prepared!
Don’t settle for wearing the ephod without hearing God’s voice. Don’t settle for calling yourself a Christian without hearing from the Holy Spirit! Lean in to your relationship with God, and ask Him to allow you to know Him like never before.
Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. – Amos 3:7
Prayer:
Father, I don’t want to know You in pretense; I want to know You in practice! I pray You would speak to me like never before. Help me to open my ears and hear what You have to say, in Jesus’ name!
