Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” – Jn 20:29

Thomas heard about Jesus; but he hadn’t seen Him. “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and…put my hand into His side, I will not believe,” he said (v 25). Thomas was fortunate. He got to see Jesus while he (Thomas) was still alive. But you and I won’t meet Jesus, face to face and in the flesh, until 1) we leave this world or 2) Jesus comes back. By then, it will be too late to decide if we believe. Our choice will have been made: and we will reap the reward, or suffer the consequences, of our decision.

Faith is a difficult proposition. God asks us to believe in Him, even though we haven’t seen Him. Jesus asks us to trust in Him, even though we’ve never met Him face to face. But here is the promise: if we believe, even though we have not seen, we will be blessed.

Thomas believed because he saw; but you and I believe because we’ve heard. We’ve heard the Good News that Jesus died for our sin. We’ve heard that God is a loving Father. We’ve heard stories of life transformation and restoration from people who tasted doubt and defeat before God lifted them up into victory.

Faith in Jesus is the only decision that matters. You’ve heard all you need to hear. Will it be enough?

Prayer:

Father, give me the courage to trust You with my whole heart. Give me the supernatural faith to believe in Jesus! I don’t want to wait until I see you face to face – at the end of my life – to know You are real. I want to believe now! Help my unbelief!
