Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?” – John 21:21

Peter was having what should have been the best day of his life. Jesus had just forgiven him! Jesus still wanted Peter to be a disciple. Peter’s focus should have been on his own life and his own calling: how he would do what Jesus had called him to do! But his focus quickly shifted to someone else.

Peter wanted to know what would happen to John. What would John’s ministry be like? Would John and Peter be working together? Who would do what? How would their ministries compare? But Jesus delivered an important message:  “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me” (v 22).

You are responsible for yourself. Don’t lose focus on God’s calling for your life, because you are worrying about someone else! The way your peers follow Jesus is not your primary concern. You worry about you; and let Jesus do the rest!

Prayer:

Father, I recognize that I am responsible for me. Help me to keep my eyes on You, instead of on other people. Their life is up to them; and my life is up to me!
