Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So the king said to him, “Why do you speak anymore of your matters? I have said, ‘You and Ziba divide the land.’ ” – 2 Sam 19:29
When David returned to Jerusalem, Mephibosheth met him. Do you remember him? David had shown Mephibosheth covenant kindness – a kindness he didn’t deserve – and invited Mephibosheth to dine at his table for the rest of his life (2 Sam 9:7). Mephibosheth repaid him by abandoning David in his hour of need. When David was exiled, Mephibosheth’s servant ran to tell David that Mephibosheth had abandoned him, and was looking to retake the throne.
At least that was the story. Back in Jerusalem, Mephibosheth tracked down David to tell him that his servant was a liar. So, what was David going to do? The servant called Mephibosheth a traitor and a liar; Mephibosheth called the servant a traitor and a liar. Someone should be tried and accused of treason! So, who was it going to be?
No one. David had bigger fish to fry. He told them to divide the land they were bickering over, and called it a day. He refused to waste his time figuring out who had lied, and who had betrayed whom. He simply divided the reward between them and kept it moving. David wasn’t sure who was right; and he didn’t care! God had restored David, and that was all that mattered.
Do not get caught in petty grievances. Resolve them swiftly, and move on. David could have been sidetracked into settling the score, but he knew God had more important things for him to do. Be like David. Don’t get caught up in the he-said/she-said. Don’t let your search for the small details obstruct your view of the big picture. God has restored you, and He is calling you to do great things!
Prayer:
Father, give me supernatural focus! I know the enemy will try and distract me every way he possibly can. I choose not to let him, in Jesus’ name.
