Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the Lord heeded the prayers for the land, and the plague was withdrawn from Israel. – 2 Sam 24:25
All of Israel was suffering from a great plague, and David’s response was prayer. He talked to God about what to do; and as he prayed, God heard and heeded his prayers! If David hadn’t prayed, the plague would not have stopped.
Your prayers matter. I’ve heard Christians say things like, “If God already knows what I need, why do I have to pray?” Or, “If God is all-powerful, why does He need my prayers?” But those questions ignore the reality that God created mankind, and then gave us dominion over the earth:
The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; but the earth He has given to the children of men. – Ps 115:16
There are things God wants to do in your life that will not happen until you pray. God doesn’t require your permission for His plan, but He does desire your participation!
Prayer:
Father, help me to pray! Remind me to pray for Your will to come to pass over my life. Keep me strong and motivated in my faith: ready to pray, no matter what! I know my prayers matter, because I have the name of Jesus, and I am filled with His Holy Spirit!
