CityLight Pastor Commentary:

“At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, ‘Ask! What shall I give you?’” (1 Kings 3:5). Solomon could have asked for anything. Yet he humbled himself and admitted to God, “…but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in” (1 Kings 3:7). God had given Solomon the task to judge the people of Israel as king, and Solomon asked for the only thing that would allow him to judge them well. He asked for wisdom: an “understanding heart.” When we ask for wisdom to perform the task God has laid out in front of us, He will turn around and give us the whole world.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matt 6:33).

Prayer:

Father, I ask for wisdom first! Give me the wisdom and the resources to accomplish the calling You have put on my life. I ask for it humbly, yet boldly, in Jesus’ Mighty Name!
