Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word.” – Acts 8:4
The church was under attack. A man named Saul, in particular, “…made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison” (v 3). The men and women who comprised the early church at Jerusalem were forced to make a choice: flee or die! Many were forced out of Jerusalem. But God used it for good.
Those who were scattered “went everywhere preaching the word” (Acts 8:4). The church was scattered, but she was not afraid. The church was persecuted, but she was not intimidated! Everywhere the enemy drove the people in the church, they preached the word. What the enemy meant for evil, God used for good.
“But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.” – Gen. 50:20
You might feel scattered. You might be somewhere that doesn’t feel like home! But God will use you to preach the word in that place. He will use you to “save many people alive” (Gen. 50:20)! Whenever the enemy attempts to drive you somewhere you have never been before, God will use you to preach the word to someone who has never heard before.
Prayer:
Father, use me! Use me to preach the word everywhere I go. I will not accept being “scattered” as defeat! I will receive it as a blessing, and use it to preach the Gospel everywhere I go, in Jesus’ name.
