Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Now King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba all she desired, whatever she asked, besides what Solomon had given her according to the royal generosity. – 1 Kings 10:13

The Queen of Sheba came to ask Solomon about, “…all that was in her heart” (v 2). However, she did not come empty handed. She came to seek his wisdom with “…spices, very much gold, and precious stones” (v 2).

The Queen of Sheba didn’t bring gifts to Solomon because he needed anything. She brought gifts to Solomon because she needed to give. She was royalty. Royal generosity dictates that what you give – not what you keep – is the true demonstration of your wealth.

Scripture calls you royalty:

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light… – 1 Pet 2:9

Are you ready to give like royalty? Solomon honored the Queen of Sheba with answers no other man could provide. In the same way, God honors us with answers – the meaning of life – no other source can provide. Shouldn’t we honor Him with royal generosity, just as the Queen of Sheba did to King Solomon?

Prayer:

Father, help me to give like royalty! Help me to walk through life with an open hand, instead of a closed fist. I want to give freely, because I have freely received!
