Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel.” – Acts 9:15

Paul had quite the past. He persecuted and murdered Christians, and made it his personal mission to destroy anyone who followed Jesus. Yet God chose him all the same.

“Chosen” is the Greek ekloge (Strong’s G1589), which means, “…of the act of God’s free will by which before the foundation of the world he decreed His blessings to certain persons.”[1] God had a plan for Paul for along. God knew how He would rescue Paul from the depths of his sin long before Paul ever sinned – even before the foundation of the world!

God also has a plan for you. Your sin has no power over you, in Jesus’ name. Long before the foundation of the world, God crafted a way out. Despite Saul’s past, he was still God’s chosen vessel! And despite your past, so are you. You are a chosen vessel; and God will use everything you have been through for good!

Prayer:

Father, I don’t deserve to be chosen; yet You chose me all the same! Thank You for planning an escape route from my sin, long before I was born. You are amazing, and I love You with all my heart!
