Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
There he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden eight years and was paralyzed. And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Arise and make your bed.” Then he arose immediately. – Acts 9:33-34
First, Peter instructed Aeneas to rise up and be well. Aeneas was healed! Then, Peter told him to make his bed.
To make your bed means to remove the adjustments you used to make to accommodate your previous state or condition. By making his bed, Aeneas was faithfully declaring through action that he would never need to lay sick in his bed again. He was casting off every expectation that his sickness would return. He was refusing to make an allowance for sickness, and proved his faith in Jesus Christ by action!
Are you ready to make your bed? Get rid of your fallback plan. Don’t allow yourself to settle for anything short of God’s full promise. Arise and make your bed!
Prayer:
Father, help me to remove any adjustments I have made to accommodate sickness, sin, or disease. I want Your best for my life. Help me to build my life and plan my days accordingly, in Jesus’ name!
