Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

So when he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him before the people after Passover. Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. – Acts 12:4-5

Herod sent four squads of soldiers to guard Peter. FOUR SQUADS! Even though Herod persecuted the church, he was well aware of the power of God. He assigned a small army of soldiers to guard Peter, because he had seen the power of God on display through Jesus’ disciples.

Yet this small army was no match for prayer. The church prayed constantly: earnestly, and without ceasing. God’s will was for Peter to be free, and the people prayed accordingly! God doesn’t need our permission to move, but He does desire our partnership.

What is holding you in prison? Is it a relationship? A job? A mountain of debt you can never pay? PRAY! Your constant prayers will break you free.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the power of prayer! Remind me to pray constantly in Jesus’ name. There is no such thing as praying too much, so I want to pray with every breath in my lungs!
