Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel. Yes, you yourselves know that these hands have provided for my necessities, and for those who were with me. – Acts 20:33-34
Paul saw miracles everywhere he went! Souls were saved. Bodies were healed! The dead were raised. And the verses above contain an absolute key to Paul’s ministry. He did not covet anyone’s silver, gold or apparel. He didn’t want their stuff! He didn’t want material things. He wasn’t traveling from church to church to make money! He worked to provide for himself, so that everything he did for the church was free. Because at the end of the day, all he wanted was to glorify God, even if it cost him everything!
Paul chose the things of the Spirit instead of the things of this world. He wanted Jesus and couldn’t have cared less about money! And because he didn’t run after the things of this world, God worked miracles through him that the world had never seen!
Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them. – Acts 19:11-12
Prayer:
Father, I want the things of the Spirit and not the things of this world! The things of this world are fading away; but the things of the Spirit will last forever. Help me to pursue what will last for eternity, and to forsake everything else, in Jesus’ name!
