Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
All these were the children of Asher, heads of their fathers’ houses, choice men, mighty men of valor, chief leaders. And they were recorded by genealogies among the army fit for battle; their number was twenty-six thousand. – 1 Chron. 7:40

The men of Israel were “recorded by their genealogies among the army fit for battle.” Heads were counted. But Scripture also noted how many were “fit for battle.” Why? Because only those who are ready for battle will contribute when fighting breaks out.

Make no mistake: we are at war. Your adversary, the devil, “…walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Pet. 5:8). “The kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force” (Matt. 11:12)! The enemy is on the offensive. Men and women are falling away from faith in Jesus Christ like never before. Political agendas, organizational agendas and cultural agendas are all pushing the Kingdom agenda to the side! So, are you fit for battle? Are you ready to fight back?

Israel’s primary battle was physical: they were constantly at war, expanding their territory. But your primary battle will be spiritual. Will you fight back as the enemy tries to control your thoughts? Will you charge forth in prayer as he tries to dominate culture? The Kingdom needs you, warrior. Get fit for battle and fight!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for giving power to my prayers. When I pray, mountains move. When I pray, the enemy is defeated! Help me to remember that the most significant activity in which I can engage each and every day is prayer. Help me to love it – and to live for it – in Jesus’ name!
