Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

[King Uzziah] sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God; and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper. – 2 Chron 26:5

Uzziah was a young king: sixteen years old when he took the throne. But God made him prosper. Uzziah didn’t act out of his youth and lack of experience. He sought the Lord, and “…as long as He sought the Lord, God made him prosper.”

Are you seeking prosperity? Or are you seeking God? As long as we seek the Lord, He will make us prosper. Jesus gave the same message to His disciples in the Sermon on the Mount: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and [everything you need] shall be added to you” (Matt 6:33). What a counterintuitive message! We are to refuse to focus on what the world says we need, and instead focus on what God says He wants us to have.

As God’s people, we don’t have to try to prosper. God made Uzziah prosper, and He will make us prosper in the same way. Goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives (Ps 23:6). We don’t have to chase after the things we need; we just need to follow God and He will take care of the rest!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for making me prosper. I am going to seek You all the days of my life; and I know that as long as I do, You will make me prosper. Thank You for Your miraculous provision, in Jesus’ name.
