Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Paul deems it an “utter failure” when we take an issue with another Christian to court. Why is he so adamant about avoiding court? Shouldn’t we have a right to protect our own interests?

When we take another Christian to court, it exposes a trust issue. Taking someone to court is really saying you trust the legal system more than the heavenly system: that you trust a judge more than you trust the One True Judge. Doesn’t Jesus promise that, “…the last will be first, and the first last” (Matt 20:16)? Doesn’t God promise that He will protect your interests at all times, and “…the eyes of the Lord your God are always upon [your land]” (Deut 11:12)?

Whatever matters to you matters to God. He is your Defender: your very present help in time of need! Trust Him to restore everything that has been lost, and then some!

Prayer:

Father, I trust You with my business interests. I trust You with my personal possessions. I trust You to manage my relationships in a healthy way. Court cases can be won and lost, but You never fail!
