Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And I said: “I pray, Lord God of heaven, O great and awesome God… please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now…” – Neh 1:5-6

Nehemiah was a powerful prophet. He was anointed by God to share His will with His people. Yet even the most anointed Old Testament prophets had to plead with God to hear their prayers.

Under our New Covenant with God through Jesus Christ, we no longer have to plead! We get to, “…come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb 4:16). We get to make our requests known to God, knowing that He gives us the same audience He gives Jesus Himself!

You are God’s child. He is attentive to you. You don’t have to plead, and hope He will listen. Jesus already purchased access to God’s presence. Be bold, and use it!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for intimate prayer! Thank You for giving me access to Your throne room. I didn’t earn it; but Jesus purchased it for me!
