Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before” (Ps 42:10). Even this story has a happy ending. God restored DOUBLE to Job! But one thing was required before double restoration could take place. Job had to forgive and pray for his friends. Job’s three friends had just given him 40 chapters of terrible advice, undeserved judgment and harsh criticism. But God commanded Job to pray for his friends; and Job did it. Forgiveness paves the way for double restoration.
Prayer:
Father, help me to forgive every person who has ever given me terrible advice – even criticism – when the only thing I needed was a good listener. I forgive that person for rushing to judgment. Help me to praise you through all circumstances. I know that I am counted righteous because of Your Son Jesus Christ!!
