Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
He who pleases God shall escape from her, but the sinner shall be trapped by her. – Eccl 7:26b

Righteousness leads to holiness! To be “righteous” is to please God. To be “holy” is to live free from sin. Too often, we get it backwards: we think the only way to be “please God” is to escape from sin. We think it’s impossible please God until we’re completely free from sin and living a holy life! But Scripture tells us the opposite is true: the only way you can live a holy life (i.e. avoid sin), is to first understand that you are righteous in Christ!

Do you want to “escape from sin?” Do you want to be able to shake the old habits you don’t want to have any more, and live the life in Christ you always dreamed about? If you want to “escape from sin,” you have to be righteous; and that can only happen through Jesus Christ!

Don’t try to be “holy” before you are “righteous.” Receive your righteousness with God through Christ, and then walk out holiness.

Prayer:

Father, thank You that I am righteous in Christ! I am pleasing to You! I recognize I can’t earn my righteousness; I can only receive what Jesus already purchased for me on the Cross! I receive His righteousness, so I can walk out His holiness, in Jesus’ name.
