Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.” – Isa. 6:5

There is a common theme among everyone who sees the King: they are overwhelmed. They are terrified with the most wonderful sense of awe when they see God with their own eyes. Isaiah was no exception. He saw God, and He was “undone:” silent and immobile, completely unable to speak.

Isaiah knew where he stood with God. He was a man of “unclean lips.” He was far from perfect! And His people were far from perfect too. Israel was full of people with “unclean lips.” They weren’t using their mouths to praise God! They weren’t living out their God-given destiny because their selfish ambition had taken over. But God met Isaiah anyway. And he was completely undone.

You don’t have to be perfect to meet with God! You just have to be available. While the rest of Israel was busy with their own agenda, Isaiah was seeking God. He was treasuring God’s Word! And despite Isaiah’s imperfection, God chose him. God spoke to him. God used him for His glory.

You’re not perfect. But God still wants to speak with you. He still wants to use you to expand His kingdom! And no matter how far from perfect you are, He is not done with you yet.

Prayer:

Father, thank You that the gifts and the callings of God are irrevocable! I don’t have to be perfect to live out Your will for my life; I just have to be available. Help me to drop whatever else I’m doing and focus on You, in Jesus’ name!
