Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Do not let your heart envy sinners, but be zealous for the fear of the Lord all the day; for surely there is a hereafter, and your hope will not be cut off. – Prov 23:17-18
Have you ever looked at someone who’s not a Christian with envy? Have you ever wanted to trade places for a day? Life with Jesus is not always easy! It often means saying yes to things you don’t want to do. It also means saying no to things you do want to do!
But Scripture’s encouragement for you is this: there is no need to envy sinners. Love God with all your heart, and do what He says! Because “surely there is a hereafter:” there is life after death. You have an eternal future with God!
So keep your eyes on the prize. One thing we know: at the end of this life, we will meet God, face to face, and it will all be worth it.
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. – Heb 12:1-3
Prayer:
Father, help me to keep my eyes on the prize. I love living for You! Remove temptation from my life, and help me to follow You like never before: with all my mind, all my heart, all my soul, and all my strength, in Jesus’ name.
