Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. – Col. 3:23-24

What type of reward do you want to receive? Every action has a consequence. Everything you do will generate a reward! So do you want your reward now, or in eternity? Do you want to enjoy it for a lifetime? Or do you want to enjoy it until the end of time?

Attitude is key. The one for whom you work will supply your reward. If you work for your boss, your only reward will come from your boss. If you work for your family, your only reward will come from your family! But if you work for the Lord, your reward will come from Him. Other people will let you down, because any reward they can offer will never really satisfy! But Jesus will never fail you, because everything He offers perfectly fulfills.

Before you go to work today, make a quality decision. For whom are you going to work? Are you going for your boss? Your family? Your future? Or are you going to work for Jesus? Don’t work for the wrong reasons. Don’t labor for the wrong people! Whatever you do, do it for the Lord. Don’t do it for men! And as you serve Jesus, you will build up an inheritance in Him.

Prayer:

Father, give me eternal perspective. Help me to work for an eternal reward instead of temporary gains. Help me to keep a healthy perspective! I pray that everything I do from this day forward would be for You and You alone, in Jesus’ name.
