Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, in which you trusted, they wearied you, then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan?” – Jer. 12:5

Jeremiah had a huge call on his life. God called him to be a prophet to the nations (Jer. 1:5). He would send Jeremiah out into the world, “put [His] words in [his] mouth” (Jer. 1:9), and entrust Jeremiah with the message that God’s people needed to hear. This would not be an easy mission! Jeremiah knew he would face resistance along the way (Jer. 1:6). So God trained Jeremiah up, one day at a time.

God will prepare you for your destiny little by little. He will put you in a process and ask you to trust Him through it! You don’t have to conquer the world overnight! You simply have to trust God to bring you victory in small battles along the way. Jeremiah was sent to the nations! But first he had to deal with his family (Jer. 12:6). Jeremiah was a prophet who would be remembered by God’s people for centuries! But first he had to conquer his own insecurity (Jer. 1:6). God gave Jeremiah little victories so he would know how to trust God when it was all on the line.

What you’re headed into today might seem small and inconsequential. But God has you in a process. There is no such thing as time wasted with God! It is by running with the footmen that you learn to “contend with horses.” Are you willing to trust God that He has a plan, and believe that not a moment with Him is lost?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for my process. Help me never to despise small victories! I am choosing to love my current circumstance today. I know You will meet me right where I am, and I thank You for it in Jesus’ name.
