Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. – 1 Tim 2:1-2

The Scriptural goal for which we should strive is to lead a “quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” Does that describe your life? Or is your life more like a whirlwind, where you are getting blown all over the place and everything is falling apart?

Verse 1 tells us that the key to a “quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” is praying for “all men, for kings and all who are in authority” (vv 1-2). The more you respect and pray for the leaders God has put in your life, the more peace you will have! The more you honor the people God has put in authority over you, the more you will experience godliness and reverence.

Peace starts with prayer. Don’t stop with praying for yourself! But don’t forget to pray for the people in authority with whom God has blessed you.

Prayer:

Father, help me to build my life around prayer. I want to live a quiet and peaceable life! I want to live a life of godliness and reverence. I know that can only happen as I pray for – and honor – the leaders You have put in my life!
