Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah…” – Jer 31:31

You have a new covenant with God through Jesus Christ! The writer of Hebrews calls it a “better covenant, which was established on better promises” (Heb 8:6). Why is our new covenant so much better than the old one?

Under the Old Covenant, you had to uphold every letter of Levitical Law to be righteous. Yet if you stumbled even in one area, you would be “guilty of all” (Jas 2:10). But under the New Covenant, you are “hidden with Christ in God” (Col 3:3). When God looks at you, He doesn’t see your sin; He sees His Son! You have been made clean by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Under the Old Covenant, your heart was, “…desperately wicked” (Jer 17:9). But under the New Covenant, God has given you a “…new heart and put a new spirit within you” (Ezek 36:26). What was hard and calloused under the Law, has been made soft and whole under grace!

Take a moment today to celebrate the fact that you were born on this side of the Cross. You get to witness the glory of a completed salvation that the Old Testament giants of our faith could have only dreamt about!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the New Covenant. Thank You that I get to live after Jesus has died on the Cross! Help me to never forget just how much better my New Covenant with You through Christ is, in Jesus’ name!
