Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Whoever has no rule over his own spirit Is like a city broken down, without walls. – Prov 25:28

You are a spirit. You have a soul! And you live in a body. And it is every man’s job to “rule over his own spirit.” What happens in the spiritual realm is actually infinitely more consequential than what happens in the physical world. The shape of your spirit is infinitely more important than the shape of your body!

Do you exercise spiritual self-control? Do you feed your spirit with a healthy diet of the word of God? Do you exercise for spiritual fitness with an active prayer life?

If your spiritual life lies in ruins, you will be “like a city broken down, without walls.” The enemy will walk all over you. He will chew you up and spit you out. But when you are “strong in the Lord” (Eph 6:10), there is nothing that will throw you off your game. You will be calm and collected, even in the midst of the most unnerving circumstances, because you know God is in control.

Prayer:

Father, help me to rule over my own spirit. Help me to find time to pray. Reveal Your heart to me as I read Your Word! I want to be in the best spiritual shape of my life, in Jesus’ name.
