Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“If you will still remain in this land, then I will build you and not pull you down, and I will plant you and not pluck you up. For I relent concerning the disaster that I have brought upon you.” – Jer. 42:10

The people of Israel were scared! They had a choice to make. Would they stay in their land, knowing that the armies of Babylon could overrun them at any time? Or would they flee to Egypt and ask Pharaoh for protection?

Here was God’s word to His people: “If you will still remain in this land, then I will build you.” If God’s people had the courage to stay where He had planted them, they would flourish. The odds of success or failure were irrelevant. The likelihood of being overtaken by their enemies didn’t matter! God said He would protect them. And His word is as good as gold.

The only rule for God’s people was this: don’t run away. And I’m wondering if the same word applies for you today? Would it be easier to run from where God has called you? Would it make more sense on paper to go somewhere else, where crime is lower, the cost of living isn’t so elevated, and life seems that much simpler? But if you leave the place where God needs you, who will take your place?

Will you have the courage to stay when others tell you to run? All that matters is this: where has God called you? Go there, and you will be blessed.

Prayer:

Father, help me to be obedient to Your word. I want to go where You call me. Period! And if You want me to be where I am, I will stay. Thank You for Your constant guidance, in Jesus’ name.
