Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. – 2 Tim. 4:1-2
The apostle Paul had one last charge for his younger apprentice Timothy: preach the word! If you want to preach the word, you have to know the word. If you want to know the word, you have to be in the word. And if you want to be in the word, you have to love the word.
But I have good news for you. God will put a love for His word in you. As you read your Bible, His Holy Spirit will make the words jump off the page! When you ask God to fill you with a love for His word, He will make you absolutely obsessed with everything He has to say. You will never have to struggle to make time to read Scripture again. It will consume your every waking moment. It will be the only thing you want to read when you wake up, and the last thing you want to see before you go to bed.
Lord, won’t You will us with a love for Your word?
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. – Jer. 31:33
Prayer:
Father, I want to love Your word! I want to be in the word so I can preach the word any time and any place. Thank You for putting a love for Your word in me, in Jesus’ name!
