Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. – Matt 3:11
John’s message had power; but Jesus’ would be better. John baptized with water unto repentance; but Jesus baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire unto salvation!
Never follow a man instead of God. John was a good preacher; but he was not the Good Preacher! God will use anointed men and women to lead you to Him! But sooner or later, you must take your eyes off the pastor, and put them on Jesus.
Jesus is everything. Nice sermons and catchy messages are fun to watch; but Jesus is beautiful to behold.
Prayer:
Father, I never want to follow a man; I want to follow You! I thank You for anointed men and women who point people to Jesus; but help me never to worship them, and only to worship You!
