Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ… – Titus 2:11-13
Christianity is not just a belief system; it is a lifestyle. Jesus is not just a person; He is God in the flesh! In verse 12 (above), we are told that, in order to follow Jesus, we must look away from some things such as “ungodliness and worldly lusts.” In verse 13, we are told what we must look toward: “the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” In order to look toward the right things, we must look away from others.
People who don’t know Jesus should be able to tell you are a Christian by the way you live your life. Christianity means so much more than coming to church on Sunday! It means completely reorienting your lifestyle around Jesus: no longer pursuing the things that kept you from Jesus, and instead pursuing Him with your whole heart.
Today is the day to dive in head-first. You have been sticking your toes in the waters of Christianity long enough! Today you become fully submerged: immune to the things that used to hold you back, and in bold pursuit of the things of Heaven, in Jesus’ name.
Prayer:
Father, I want to live a holy lifestyle! I want people to look at me and know who You are by the way I live my life. Fill me with faith to believe in You with all my heart; and help me to change my focus so that nothing can stand in my way!
