Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Now upon you I will soon pour out My fury, and spend My anger upon you; I will judge you according to your ways, and I will repay you for all your abominations. – Ezek. 7:8

God’s people were outside of His will, and this was their portion! God would pour out all His fury on them. He would spend His anger upon them! He would judge them according to their ways, and repay them for everything they had done wrong. They would wallow in their sin – their separation from God! – and get exactly what they deserved.

But that is not your portion. You believe in Jesus! And He died on the Cross in your place. You are far from perfect! You are deserving of the fiery wrath and furious anger of God because you drifted far from Him and didn’t follow His Word. But God already spent His anger on Jesus Christ on the cross. And that means there is no fury, no fire, and no anger left for you.

Jesus received the fury of God in your place. He died on the Cross as the punishment for your sins! Just as water poured out from a bucket onto the ground cannot be re-gathered, the spent fury of God cannot be re-deserved. God poured His righteous anger out on Jesus at the Cross; and that means there is none left for you.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the Cross! I am so undeserving of Your grace and Your love, yet You shower me with them all the same. Thank You, thank You, thank You! In Jesus’ name.
