Commentary from Pastor Mike White:
But the children of Israel had walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. – Ex 14:29
The Red Sea crossing is one of the most miraculous stories in the Bible. Israel fled from Egypt with boldness (Ex 14:8), but when they saw Pharaoh hot on their trail they became afraid (Ex 14:10). God told Moses to stretch his hand out over the waters of the Red Sea. The waters stood on end, allowing the people of Israel to walk through on dry land. Then those walls of water crashed in on the Egyptians, killing them all.
When we read Bible stories like this, we have to make a decision. Do you really believe this happened? If you don’t, and it’s nothing more than a fable to tell your kids, then that has serious implications. If you don’t believe that God split the waters of the Red Sea for Israel, then how much of the Bible do you pass off as untrue? Where are you holding back in your life because you’re unsure if God’s word is true?
But if you do believe this story, it changes everything. God Is Who He says He Is. If He was willing to make an ocean stand upright for His people, what is He willing to do in your life?
Make the decision to believe the Bible as God’s word. The Red Sea crossing happened. The Cross happened. These events were recorded by Holy Spirit-inspired writers: not so that we could think they were nice, but so we could know they are true.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that Your word is true! You are who You say You are, and You’ll do what You say You’ll do. I believe You will work the miraculous in my life, just as You did for Your people Israel!
