Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!…’ ” – Ezekiel 37:4

Ezekiel 37 is a famous passage in Scripture. God sets Ezekiel in the midst of a valley of dry bones. He tells Ezekiel to prophesy to the dry bones and they come back to life! By the end of the exchange, what was once dead and lifeless had turned into “an exceedingly great army” (v 10), ready for service to the Lord.

Notice two things about verse 4:

1) God told Ezekiel to prophesy to the dry bones. Ezekiel had to speak! God took him to a particular place so that the word of the Lord could be released over something that needed to come back to life. He will do the same in your life! He will take you into the midst of dead, dry, lifeless situations and use you as a catalyst to bring them back to life.

2) God told Ezekiel exactly what to prophesy. Being willing to prophesy is only part of the battle. Next, you have to ask God exactly what to say. Ezekiel didn’t just prophesy to dry bones! He used the words God told him to choose. And the same is true for your life. Don’t just pray! Pray what God tells you to pray. Don’t just declare! Declare what He gives you to declare! Before you so much as open your mouth, ask God to fill it; and say exactly and only what He gives you to say. And as you do, dead things will be brought back to life.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to rely on Your word like never before. I will go where You call me to go! I will say what You tell me to say. I will do what You ask me to do, in Jesus’ name.
