Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God” (1 John 3:1)! When you accept Jesus Christ into your life, you become a child of God. You are reconciled to right relationship with a God who loves you: not because of anything you’ve done, but because of everything Jesus Christ has done for you.
God loves you infinitely, and He trusts you infinitely. He sent His only son to die for us, and we (the human race) proved we were unworthy stewards of God’s Greatest Gift by nailing Him to the Cross. But despite our irresponsibility, instead of removing His hand from our lives, God honored us by trusting us even more. He blessed us with His Holy Spirit and pronounced us suitable candidates for the indwelling presence of His Holy Spirit.
Why would God honor us so much? We are His children; and if even earthly fathers know how to give good gifts, just imagine how much the God of the Universe wants to bless you!
Prayer:
Father, thank You for adopting me as Your child! Thank You that I am an heir to the promise of Abraham, and a recipient of the reward only Jesus Christ deserves. Despite my endless shortcomings, You have called me worthy.
