Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

“For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8). John tells us that the enemy comes only to do 3 things: to steal, kill and destroy (Jn 10:10). If we entertain Satan’s plan for our lives by convincing ourselves that we can benefit from colluding with him, we are in extreme peril. Satan comes to destruct; but Jesus came to destroy Satan. In any decisive fight, there can only be one winner. Jesus Christ has destroyed Satan: once and for all. There is no second chance for the devil, because a decisive victory has already been won! Rest in the finished work of Jesus’ victory, knowing that Satan’s destruction was the very reason Jesus Christ came to earth.

Prayer:

Father, thank You that Jesus Christ has already won the only victory that matters! He has defeated death and the grave. Help me to rest in the finished work of the Cross. I don’t have to fight Satan because Jesus has already beaten him for me.
