Commentary from Pastor Mike White:
And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. – Ex 17:12
When Moses held up his hands, Israel prevailed; and when he let them down, the enemy was victorious. God called Moses to keep his hands raised, but Moses could not endure that burden on his own. He was not strong enough, and his hands became tired. If Moses had been alone, Israel would have been defeated. But Moses was not alone.
Moses’ friends stepped in at his hour of need and supported him. Aaron, his brother, and Hur, his friend, held up his hands without Moses even having to ask. They knew exactly what he needed, at exactly the right time, and they stepped in to help.
When you need help, ask God for good friends to support you and hold you up. When you don’t need help, ask God to show you someone who does. They just might need an Aaron, or a Hur, to hold them up in their hour of need.
Prayer:
Father, help me to be a good friend to all the people You have put in my life. I know I don’t have to bear my burdens alone, because You will surround me with people to help. Cause me to take notice when others need my assistance, and allow me to freely give!
