Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. – Hos. 4:6

Scripture issues a word of caution here. God’s people are destroyed for “lack of knowledge.” Knowledge is the Hebrew da’ath (Strong’s H1847), which means “perception, discernment, or understanding.” But what is Scripture really saying? Do we need to read more books? Listen to more TED talks and YouTube videos? Will more college degrees help? How do we attain the “knowledge” that will keep us from being “destroyed?”

In one verse (above), Scripture makes an invaluable connection between “lack of knowledge” and “forgetting the law of our God.” To reject knowledge means to willfully ignore God’s Word. Do you see how simple this is? You don’t need more information; you simply need to invest more time in your relationship with Jesus! Read His Word, and make time for Him in prayer. Get to know Jesus for who He really is! And as you do, God will prosper you: everywhere you go, and everything you do, in Jesus’ name.

Knowing more information is not true knowledge. But knowing Jesus more is.

Prayer:

Father, help me to focus on what’s truly important! I want to know Jesus like never before. I have media outlets and information sources vying for my attention all day long, but what I really need to do most is connect with You. Help me to do it, in Jesus’ name!
