Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place–unless you repent. – Rev. 2:5

The church at Ephesus had “fallen.” But it wasn’t that they had sinned. It wasn’t that they were engaged in some reckless, irresponsible behavior, or committed to doctrine that didn’t align with God’s Word! The Ephesians were “fallen” because they had forgotten about Jesus. They were all about His business! But they had forgotten about His presence.

Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. – Rev. 2:4

Jesus warned them to “repent and do the first works.” Loving Jesus is your “first work!” It is the first priority of your every day. It is the purpose for which you were put on this earth! Jesus does not want you to do one single thing for Him until you’ve taken care of what matters most: simply being with Him.

Do you love Him with all your heart? Then put your to-do list on hold. Spend time with Jesus. Pray! Read His Word. Devote yourself fully to Him, and your life will be flooded with purpose and Resurrection power.

“…but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” – Acts 6:4

Prayer:

Jesus, I repent! I have fallen from grace. I have fallen from Your feet! Thank You for reminding me that my relationship with You is all that matters. I don’t want to focus on anyone or anything else. Jesus, You have my heart: now and forevermore.
