Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. – Rev. 2:21
There was a woman named Jezebel in the church in Thyatira. The church allowed her to, “…teach and seduce [God’s] servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols” (v 20). She was not following God! And what’s worse, she was causing people in the church to sin with her false doctrine. But even though she violated God’s will from every angle, God didn’t strike her down or kill her on the spot. In His infinite mercy, He, “…gave her time to repent.”
God gives you time. Have you ever wondered why wicked people are allowed to do wicked things and God doesn’t strike them down, then and there, on the spot? Because God gives us time to change. He is, “…longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Pet. 3:9). The fact that a lightning bolt doesn’t hit you out of the sky when you sin doesn’t mean God doesn’t care what you do! It simply means that He is patient. That He is merciful! That He is giving you more time because He wants you to come to Him and be changed.
Make no mistake. Every wicked man and woman will get what is coming:
“The Son of Man indeed goes just as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.” – Matt. 26:24
But if you’re still breathing, there is still time to come to Jesus. You don’t have to die in your sin. Come to Jesus, and receive everlasting life.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your mercy! Thank You for being patient with me. I know I am alive because of Your longsuffering. You don’t want me to die in my sin! You want me to live in Christ, in Jesus’ name.
