Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then the Lord came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain. And the Lord called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up. – Ex 19:20
God came down so Moses could go up. God made His presence known so His people could respond. God made Himself accessible; all Moses had to do was respond to God’s invitation, and enter in to His presence!
Jesus came down so we could go up. He, “…became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (Jn 1:14)! He died as a Man so we could live as sons and daughters of God! He made a way for us to follow Him into Heaven, where there was no way before.
God came down so you could go up. Don’t stay at the bottom of the mountain like the people of Israel, afraid to go up and meet with God (Ex 20:19)! Say yes. Go up! You will be forever changed.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for inviting me into Your presence. I want to live my life with an understanding of who You are, and who You have called me to be. You came down so I could go up, in Jesus’ name!
