Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
If the theft is certainly found alive in his hand, whether it is an ox or donkey or sheep, he shall restore double. – Ex 22:4
Whenever a theft takes place in Scripture, the thief is required to restore above and beyond what was stolen. In verse 1, we see that any man who stole an ox had to restore five oxen to the previous owner; and any man who stole a sheep had to restore four sheep to the previous owner. In verse 4, we see that the very least a thief is ever called to restore is double to the previous owner. What’s the point?
The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy (Jn 10:10). However, if the enemy steals something from you, he has to give it back; and single restoration just isn’t going to cut it. At the very least, Satan is required to restore multiples of what he has stolen. God will make sure more than what was taken is returned to you!
What has the enemy tried to steal from you? Years of your life? Creative ideas? Peace in relationships? God is the God of restoration. Whatever the enemy has taken, God will make him restore double! Thank God He doesn’t just make us the way we were. He always leaves us better than we’ve ever been!
Return to the stronghold, you prisoners of hope. Even today I declare that I will restore double to you. – Zech 9:12
Prayer:
Father, thank You for double restoration! I know everything the enemy has stolen will be doubly restored. I believe it, and I receive it, in Jesus’ name!
