Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“And you shall command the children of Israel that they bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to cause the lamp to burn continually.” – Ex. 27:20

The church leader’s job is to keep the lamp burning; but it is the responsibility of the people to bring the oil!

When you come to church, do you come hungry? Do you bring “pure oil” in the form of worship? Do you come for the right reasons: to contribute, instead of consume? Worship was never supposed to be boring! It is meant to be a manifestation of the glory and the goodness of God. And when we bring our oil, God will cause us to burn continually for all the world to see.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your anointing. Thank You for giving me pure oil of pressed olives – a life of worshipful purity and holy reverence – so that I can come to You with praise and thanksgiving! Help me to always remember to do something with my oil: to bring it as a sacrifice of praise, in Jesus’ name.
