Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table. But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? – Matt. 26:6-8
A woman came to Jesus with an “alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil” (v 7) and poured it on His head. The disciples were beside themselves, angry and annoyed. Why would this woman waste this costly oil on Jesus when it could have been sold and the proceeds donated to the poor?
But Jesus rebuked them. Nothing spent on Jesus is ever wasted. When Jesus arrives in the room, you take everything you have and lay it at His feet. That is the only rational response for a King who descended from His throne in heaven to die in your place!
No moment in His presence is ever wasted. No offering brought to His treasury is ever wasted! No time, effort, or energy growing His kingdom is ever wasted. Whatever you pour out in the presence of King Jesus is always worth it.
What are you offering Him today, that you have never offered Him before?
Prayer:
Father, I will pour out my life at the feet of Jesus. I will spend all that I have on Him! I will spend every waking moment, and every breath in my lungs, worshipping the King of kings and making Him known. He alone is worthy of my worship and my praise, in Jesus’ name!
