CityLight Pastor Commentary:

“But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom” (Matt 26:29). After instituting the Lord’s Supper, Jesus promises that when we see Him in heaven we will join Him in a marriage feast (see Rev 19:9)! Every time we take communion, we remind ourselves that we get to look forward to eating and drinking with God Himself in heaven. In Ex 24, the elders of Israel “…saw God, and they ate and drank” (Ex 24:11). Eating and drinking 1) take time and 2) are filling. We should take time to seek God’s presence, knowing that when we do we will be full: both of bread (the Word of God) and of wine (His Holy Spirit).

Prayer:

“Father, thank You that I am heaven bound! Remind me to take time to ingest Your Word and get used to Your presence. I can’t wait to see you face to face!”
