CityLight Pastor Commentary:

Exodus 31 contains two very important principles for our professional lives. First, the Holy Spirit will work through us to make us good craftsmen (and women) for God’s glory. God describes to Moses how He filled the craftsmen for the temple “…with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge…” (Ex 31:3). You don’t have to be employed in full-time ministry to be used for God’s glory. When we seek to build His Kingdom with our craft, God will fill us with wisdom and understanding so that we’re able to honor Him at our place of business. Second, rest is important. The Sabbath – the day of rest – is holy to the Lord. This is one day out of seven which we should all set aside to praise and honor God. The best way to avoid burnout is to take time to focus on God – the consuming fire who never burns out.

Prayer:

“God I know You will honor me and cause me to prosper in my professional field. Help me to honor You with everything I do, especially at the office. There is no talent too small for You to use, so I give everything over to You and ask You to make it great in Jesus’ Name!”
